Photos: Tree Comes Down On Occupied Car In Mahopac

A lucky driver was not injured when a large tree can down on top of their vehicle and a firefighter happened to be nearby.

The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. Monday on West Lake Boulevard, said officials with the Mahopac Falls Fire District.

When the incident went out over the emergency radio for help, one of the district's firefighters was on his way home when he heard the call and responded in his work truck. James McGinty III, the owner of JLJ Truck & Equipment Repair, was soon at the "right time- right place."

Crews work to remove the tree.

His expertise and knowledge, along with a heavy-duty crane/boom on his work truck was a lifesaving sight to the responding crews including Mahopac Falls Fire District firefighters, EMS, Fire and Heavy Rescue units, Carmel Police, and equipment from the Putnam County Highway Department.

The first arriving units found a large tree across the roof of a car with the driver still inside. Upon a closer look, firefighters found the driver in good condition and not injured.

Crews prepare to remove the tree from the vehicle.
